writing around someone
I write every day. Sometimes fiction, more often commentary on political events and personalities, art and music, or literature. It's hard to nail me down to one thing, so this blog is where I put items that interest me that are connected, in general, with the Arts.

Al Gore rhythm ;-)

The word algorithm comes to us from the Arabic name of a ninth century Persian mathematician and textbook author, via Old French and Medieval Latin: Muhammad ibn-Musa al-Khwarizmi

Getting inside the head of an autisitc boy

A Boy, a Mother and a Rare Map of Autism's World
"I can concentrate either at what I am seeing or what I am hearing or what I am smelling," he wrote, not long after he began meeting neurologists. "It felt nothing unnatural to me until I realized that others could simultaneously see and hear and smell." NY Times 11-20-02

A woman from India had rare insight into how to teach her autistic child, with the result that he although he does not speak easily, he writes poetry, reads, and can communicate using a computer and a speech synthesizer. Now at the age of 14, he eleoquently describes for scientists what it feels like to be autistic.
The article is about autism, but I would like to read more about the mother: is she trained n education, or psychology? Did she just luck into methods that produced communcation from her son, or is there something different about her or her background that led her to know how to teach him?
The mother will be lost in this story, and down the road, some (male) scientist will take credit for her methods.
